Been a busy weekend and gained another follower.

Seems that this busy weekend is finally coming to a close. As most of you know, if you follow my friend Stephen's blog, we had a group workday this Saturday. Well all assembled out at the Boars Nest around 9am. Duke, Pirate Jim, Rebel and Shooter Steve were in attendance but not Stephen. He arrived a few hours later which gave us time to talk about him and find worthless jobs for him to do when he arrives. We actually got a lot accomplished out there. Moved some things around and started some new construction. I took my Honda Rancher ATV out there to (a) help with moving some of the big stuff, (b) put some hours on it before I take it in for it's 150 hour valve adjustment and (c), raise hell on it and spin it side-ways. I accomplished all three. I ended up leaving the guys a little early since I was starting to feel like crap. My nose was stopped up that morning, cleared up some but started to come back. It's that time of the year here when temperatures are changing and sinus's are messing with me.

The other 3/4 of my family picked up Stephen's Sweet Wife and proceeded to go antique shopping. They had a request or two to find certain items, which they achieved their mission and succeeded in finding them. Stephen ended up with a few Coleman Stoves, I got one stove, Model 413G and a couple of Coleman Lanterns, one gas and one propane.

So today, while cooking ribs on the smoker, I started with the Stove. The pump was not working correctly, so earlier I had purchased a pump repair kit and fixed it. The person who had it before me decided to use pump gas in it and the tank was dirty. The generator had seen better days. I broke out the denatured alcohol and started flushing the tank and generator. After 3 flushings, I let it air dry for about 30 mins, then put about a third of a tank of white gas in it and it fired right up. Ran the main burner for about 30 mins, boiled some water then ran both burners for over an hour. The stove didn't miss a beat. It could use some work, small sections of surface rust in bottom and tank could you some fresh paint, but an easy fix. Will get it clean when I have nothing to do during the winter.

While the stove was making its paces, I took out both lanterns and put a propane tank on one, put mantles and fresh white gas in the other and they fired right up. I sat them to the side until it got dark and lit them up.

Until next time, hope everyone has a good start to the week.

  3. Set up and clean up DOES make it a lot easier to go have 'fun' later... And taking the time now, when the weather is good, DEFINITELY makes it easier (working parties in the middle of the winter SUCK)
