I'm sorry for the lack of posts, I have started a new job and work 8 hours plus a day 6 of the 7 days in the week. If many of you know, I take all VETERAN matters very serious. I come from a family that has had a long standing duty to defend "Old Glory", myself career Navy, Father was Air Force during entire Korean war conflict, uncle who did three tours in Vietnam with the Corps, and wanted a fourth but they wouldn't let the crazy MF'r go back, another uncle was career Air Force, and another who was Army. Jim, aka, Old NFO and a shipmate, posted on his bog "Nobody asked me" about suicide awareness amongst veterans. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH OUR VETERANS AND IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!! I will re-post an entry I made on my blog September 21st, 2012. I had a young sailor, a close friend, who lived close to me, and hung out with me, he was a nuclear Machinist Mate First Class who was attached to a Ohio Class Ballistic Missile submarine in Kings Bay, Ga. one afternoon, he came back in the community, went in his house, and committed suicide in the early afternoon. I ask all of you, if you know a ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE, VETERAN or NOT, who is going through tough times, acting strange, or showing possible signs, please, IMI, PLEASE INTERVENE IMMEDIATELY!!!
Senior
Senior,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you my friend, we all must intervene Veteran or not!!!
They say 22 Veteran's commit suicide daily, this should not be happening. These Veteran's fight for our freedoms, and when they return home they're not provided the medical care or help needed. Shame on this country, shame on our government, and shame on us if we don't intervene or attempt to be aware of the needs of a hurting soldier, friend, or family member.
Thanks Sandy. Yes, more can be done. Don't forget about the frustration veterans go through trying to find a simple job. That just adds to the problem.
DeleteSandy beat me to it. I was Navy, my Dad was Army, and his dad was cavalry in the Spanish-American War. Veterans matter, and this nation has failed in its obligation to care for those who bore the brunt of battle, to our eternal shame.
ReplyDeleteBut it can be fixed, if we all insist loudly enough.
Agree, President Lincoln would be ashamed if he was here.

one of the directors sons a veterans, came home with PTSD commited suicide...very tragic.....
Lots of veterans come back with problems and they just do the best they can to handle them. If they are very lucky, and have a very good spouse, they can maintain. If they are not lucky, and don't have that support, sometimes it gets to be too much for them. The country ought to do a lot better for vets, but it seems pretty clear that once you are out, and no further use to them, the government would just as soon you went off somewhere and quietly faded away, one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteAfter leaving the service over 5 years ago, yep, I feel that this country has forgotten us all. Basically used like a piece of meat. What burns the most, is that a good portion of the country could care less as well. Just as long as they have their I Phones, internet, cable. That's all most people care about.
DeleteThanks for the link, and yes we HAVE to do something! The administration doesn't give a s**t about the vets now.
