HH, you are a great person for passing on the traditions that made this country great. Brotherly love is impenetrable, except when your brother is a 0-Bot, then that changes things.
Probably, but i was surprised when I went to the cemetery to place the flags, there was a bus load of kids from a local ROTC unit with a representative from the Marine League and they were placing flags on all the veterans graves. It actually made me feel that there is some hope left for the youth, but it all depends on social and cultural upbringing too.
It is sad that the meaning to the country has been lost. If things continue to progress they way they are however there maybe a resurgence of awareness.
There was always one thing I was proud about wearing my anchors, we were the guardians of naval tradition; however, as of late, the old guard is leaving and the new generation of gimme my anchors has arrived.
Thank you sister in arms. Us allies have spilled blood around the world, not only thinking our soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines, I'm half British and my grandfather served in tank corps in Africa, so I also think of him.
We attended a local ceremony and I was horrified. The ceremony itself was lovely but the crowd...people were wearing flip flops, shorts, and there were hoochee dresses and bra straps everywhere. I had worried that my button down and nice jeans would be seen as disrespectful, and I felt overdressed!
Teaching my children why this holiday was instituted. And thanking God, like I do every year, that my brother came home from Iraq after Desert Storm.

DeleteMy brother is a libertarian. Hates Obama with a bloody purple passion.
DeleteI will bet the average HS student (at least government educated) could not tell you the meaning, in fact 0bama doesn't fully understand it either.

DeleteThanks Senior...We did not forget. Our flag flew at half staff today until noon to remind others that today is not about socializing and picnics.
ReplyDeleteI know you didn't forget, if I was home I would have done the same, drove back from god's country this morning.
DeleteNo, really, I haven't forgotten. Trust me. What's for dinner.
ReplyDeleteIf you did forget, I would let the guys pepper you with cow patties from the other farm. Pork chops, want some?
DeleteI went on Saturday. Today, I went and shot old military rifles in tribute!
ReplyDeleteWell shipmate, that is a fine tribute to the fallen heroes, thank you sir!
